Faaberg Parsonage
The parsonage was built in 1930 on land gifted to Faaberg Church by Ole Rindal. It has been home to 6 ministers and their families, including my dear childhood friend. Now, it will become my home.
I began renting the home in November, waiting to close on the sale until I could close on my home in Dilworth. We began work inside on December 4th. You can follow the process on the blog page and find the corresponding photos captioned here.

The first image of the house. There were several overgrown saplings and trees growing in the planters in front of the house.

With the help of my Mom and brother-in-law, I removed the overgrowth and saplings.. Even though the siding will be replaced next summer, we did wash the front of the house in the fall.

The backyard view looking south.

The back side of the house. The siding will be replaced in the spring. The existing roof from the old screened-in porch will be replaced with a pergola. I hope to reuse the existing concrete pads for the patio.

East Side of Living Room

Day One: Bruce and I scraped the popcorn ceilings in the living and dining rooms.

You can see the line where the ceiling has been scraped close to the window wall.

My brother, Steve, and I were left unsupervised on a Sunday and pulled all the paneling off of the stairway walls. The backside of a closet was revealed to be a modification to the original staircase.

The angle added to the stairway to make room for the closet. We removed it.

The stairs is much more open.

So.. We gook it off.

Bookcases and window seat have been removed.

Ceilings have been painted in the living and dining rooms.

The removal of sheet vinyl and a lot of glue reviled beautiful fir!

Built-ins and paneling have been removed from the front room and the ceiling has been painted.

Removing the carpet from the stairs not an easy task! I'm very grateful to my brother and sister, Brenda for spending the day pulling staples!

Upstairs carpet was removed.

Front entrance demo day.

Front entrance built-ins have been removed and the ceiling painted.

Front room after the paneling was removed. There used to be a window on the east side as well.
Office Demo
What did your family do Christmas Day? Mine helped me demo my office space! The original office was divided into two spaces, one for the church secretary and one for the pastor’s office. An open floorplan will offer much more room for meeting with clients, showcasing samples and merchandise! The electrician has taken care of all the wiring but other than that, it will remain as is until the house is further along and the weather warms up!

My last night in Dilworth

Trim and floors are done in time to squeeze my furniture in while we work on the rest of the house.

All upstairs furniture is crammed in one bedroom while we work everywhere else.

Finding a few minutes of normalcy until we start again.

Maple floors refinished!

The fir floor refinished in one room on the main floor. This is the floor that was covered in sheet vinyl and glue. What a treasure hiding beneath all of that! The paint color has been changed to brighten up the space. Finishing the trim and changing out the light are the only items left on the list in this room.

The wood floor is removed from one of the bedrooms upstairs. The wood will be repurposed as window trim where white mdf trim was removed.

The closet door in the bathroom.

A door has been cut through the existing bathroom to the middle bedroom to create a larger bathroom. The stack has been replace and moved.

The old bathroom fixtures have been removed. This will be the new laundry room.

The old hardwood was carefully removed for later use and the subfloor was opened up for the new plumbing.

A new wall divides the old bathroom into the new laundry room and toilet room.

Cement board is installed and we are ready for tile!

Jerod is always thinking of creative solutions.

Penny tile with a border. Math, and more math....

What I do when everyone has gone home.... I marked the tiles for the border. The next day, Jerod plucked them out and I handed him black ones to create a flower border.

Toilet room is created by dividing wall. The toilet didn't actually move but changed rooms by adding a wall on one side and a doorway on the other.

The dividing wall between two closets was removed to create a walk-through closet between the primary bedroom and the bathroom.

Closet Lights

There are no longer two separate closets, but one walk through closet from the bathroom to the primary bedroom.

A half chimney used when there was a wood burning stove in the living room was covered with wallpaper and paneling. I started to pick at it....

The boys have a plan.

The blocks were held by a disc from a farm implement and a pipe that had filled with water. A stone was plugging the hole in the wall.

Like it was never here....

You have to love sisters that are willing to melt paint off of doors!

More paint gone.

Trim is down to the bare wood in the bedroom!

Sections of refinished base. Look at that grain!
